North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) Director Melinda Munden has been named as the co-recipient of the first annual Mike Klug Award.

The award was given during the U.S. Administration for Community Living (ACL) Office of Healthcare Information and Counseling’s (OHIC) 2023 SMP/SHIP/MIPPA National Conference held in Bethesda, MD, on July 27.

The North Carolina Rate Bureau has requested a 50.6% statewide average rate increase for dwelling policies.

The Rate Bureau represents the insurance companies in the state and is not a part of the N.C. Department of Insurance.

The Rate Bureau filed the proposed increase with the Department of Insurance on July 13. The request would take effect on June 1, 2024.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, who also serves as the State Fire Marshal, on Tuesday will present the Order of the Guardian Award to three Rockingham County volunteer firefighters who have more than 155 years of combined service to their communities.

The three – Carl Steve Hall, Leonard Wayne Griffin and Cecil Vernon Gammon – are long-serving members of the Monroeton Volunteer Fire Department in Reidsville.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey will tour tornado-damaged areas and offer assistance to those affected by the storm in areas in Nash County this afternoon.

A special Victim Assistance Center will be staffed by representatives from the Department of Insurance and the Office of State Fire Marshal to provide insurance information to policyholders affected by the storm. The center will be on site at the Red Oak Fire Department until 6 p.m. tonight and will return to the area on future dates if needed.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced new technology upgrades that will help bail bond agents better track cases, log citizen complaints and manage workflow by merging multiple systems previously unconnected. 

The department collaborated with the N.C. Department of Information Technology’s Government Data Analytics Center (GDAC) on multi-phased upgrades to NCDOI’s Bail Bond Information System (BBIS), including a new dashboard that uses technology from SAS, one of the state’s vendor partners, to integrate data in an online reporting system.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will present the Order of the Long Leaf Pine to retiring Fire Chief Vence Harris of the Chapel Hill Fire Department during a special ceremony on Friday, June 16.

The Commissioner, who also serves as the State Fire Marshal, will present the award at 6:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel, located at One Europa Drive in Chapel Hill.
