NC Department of Insurance Press Release

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Renaldo Andrado Langley, 41, of 1313 Glencastle Way, Raleigh; he is charged with one count of felonious restraint.



Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Langley, a licensed bail bondsman, of restraining and moving a victim in a motor vehicle from one place to another without their consent. Investigators allege Langley was transporting the victim from her place of employment to the Wake County Detention Center.



Langley was arrested on Feb. 5 in Wake County and placed under a $10,000 bond.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Dewey Ray Norman, 41, of 170 Mitchell Court, North Wilkesboro; he is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and burning personal property.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Norman of providing false and misleading information to Farm Bureau Insurance Company in regards to the circumstances surrounding an automobile fire that occurred on June 2, 2016. Investigators allege Norman intentionally set fire to the automobile that belonged to Judy Joya at the time of the incident

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Ericka Nicole Wright, 23, of 2640 Toddler Place, Winston-Salem; she is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.



Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Wright of providing false statement regarding damages to a vehicle in order to receive payment from GEICO Insurance Company on April 25, 2016. Investigators allege the damage to the vehicle was sustained at a time Wright did not have insurance coverage.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Amy Jo Blackmon, 51, of 104 Springer Road, Wadesboro; she is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.



Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Blackmon of providing false statements regarding vandalism to a vehicle in order to receive payment from Progressive Insurance Company in October 2016. Investigators allege the damage was preexisting when the vehicle was purchased.

NC Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey congratulated Rep. Linda Johnson recently at a Raleigh meeting of insurance executives for her diligence in helping establish North Carolina's captive insurance company program.



"Thanks to Rep. Linda Johnson and her hard work to help establish North Carolina's captive insurance program, we have continued growth in that industry and look forward to its further development," said Commissioner Causey. "North Carolina continues to prove to be a great place for captive insurers and much of the credit goes to Rep. Johnson."

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that the Department of Insurance has received the annual auto insurance rate filing from the North Carolina Rate Bureau. The Bureau, which represents the auto insurance companies in the state, requested an overall statewide average increase of 13.8 percent for 2017.



This rate filing is the first auto rate filing the Department of Insurance has received from the Rate Bureau since 2009. The last auto rate increases occurred in 2001 and 2002 but were wiped out by the rate decrease that occurred in 2003.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jonette Michelle Caldwell, 31, of 3413 Asgar Court, Raleigh; she is charged with three counts of soliciting bail bond business inside a confinement facility.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Caldwell of soliciting bail bond business within the confines of the Wake County Detention Center from September 2016 through November 2016. Investigators allege Caldwell of paying inmates for referrals to other inmates.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is pleased to report that North Carolina's captive insurance company program once again exceeded expectations during the program's third full year of operation.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jacqueline V. Hughley, 37, of 312 West 9th St., Washington; she is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.



Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Hughley of submitting fraudulent documents to MetLife in an attempt to obtain $850 in med pay. Investigators allege Hughley altered documents to appear as if they came from a local hospital.



Hughley was arrested on Jan. 19 in Beaufort County and released with a promise to appear in court.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Christopher Lamont Mitchell, 29, and Daniela Alysia Coley, 28, of 157 Johns Lane, Bunn; each is charged with one count each of insurance fraud by the North Carolina Department of Insurance and attempting to obtain property by false pretense by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
