North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced the arrest of Oscar Rafael Ruiz, 44, of 1921 Abbott St., Charlotte. Ruiz is charged with 26 counts of insurance fraud, 21 counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense and five counts of obtaining property by false pretense. All 52 charges are felonies.

Updated to Include Victim Assistance Center Saturday in Carrboro

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has announced the opening of a Victim Assistance Center (VAC) in Carrboro to help victims of flooding from Tropical Storm Chantal.

Representatives from NCDOI will be present to answer insurance-related questions and to provide assistance.

The VACs will be held from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, Friday, July 11 and on Saturday, July 12 on the first floor of the Drakeford Multipurpose Room, located at 203 S. Greensboro St., Carrboro.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has announced the opening of a Victim Assistance Center (VAC) to help aid those impacted by flooding from Tropical Storm Chantal.

Representatives from NCDOI will be on hand to aid those in need of insurance-related support from the storm.

The VAC will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 10 at the cul-de-sac near 510 Seven Oaks Road in Durham. Commissioner Causey and State Senator Sophia Chitlik will be present.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced the arrest of Zionna Monae Reid, 25, of 2727 Tallu Rd., Charlotte. Reid is charged with four counts of insurance fraud and one count of making a false statement in an application for insurance. All five charges are felonies.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrests of Channell Cheri Smith, 39, of 4564 Merryvale Forest Dr., Charlotte, and Shandaricka Takayla Alexander, 33, of 5916 Hamilton Oaks Dr., Charlotte. Smith and Alexander were each charged with one count of insurance fraud and one count of conspiracy. All charges are felonies.
