North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Sara Peffer Bailey, 22, of 234 Raven Circle, Lexington. Bailey is charged with three counts of insurance fraud, two counts of obtaining property by false pretense and one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense. All six charges are felonies.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will honor an Alamance Community Fire District firefighter who has served for a half century with the Department of Insurance’s top award on Sunday afternoon.

Wayne Henderson, who joined the Alamance Community Fire District in Guilford County Aug. 1, 1975, will receive the Order of the Guardian Award. Henderson plans to retire on Aug. 28, 2025.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Michael Gerard Renna, 50, of 258 Chatsworth Lane, Clayton. Renna was charged with 26 counts of insurance fraud, 18 counts of obtaining property by false pretense and 10 counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, all felonies.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will visit Kitty Hawk on Friday, August 15 to tour the new Dare County Emergency Management Station 9, located at 4904 N. Croatan Hwy.  

The tour will take place at 10 a.m. that morning. Afterwards, Commissioner Causey will address the media to highlight water safety and the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season in North Carolina.

The North Carolina Department of Insurance has posted the rate changes requested by insurers for the 2026 plan year individual and small-group market plans offered under the Affordable Care Act.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey joined Sunset Beach Mayor Shannon Phillips and Gina Hardy, Chief Executive Officer of the North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association (NCIUA), to announce a $20 million grant initiative through the 2025 Strengthen Your Coastal Roof program. The announcement took place Thursday morning at a Sunset Beach home equipped with a FORTIFIED Roof, a national standard in resilient roofing developed by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS).
