Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is urging North Carolinians to protect themselves and their property in the wake of the effects of Tropical Storm Debby. Heavy rains have produced downed trees, power outages, severe flooding and have even spawned tornadoes across the state this week.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrests of Allen Ray Gowans and Natasha Die’t Jones as result of the same investigation. Jones, 37, of 5200 Summit Manor Lane Raleigh, was charged with insurance fraud and aiding and abetting another to obtain property by false pretense.

Gowans, 36, of 2914 Moorgate Ave., Durham, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.

All of the charges are felonies.

As the calendar turns to August, many of North Carolina’s college students will be returning to school and moving into dorms, student housing or apartments this month. State Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is offering tips to students who may not be aware of important insurance coverage options when it comes to save-guarding their possessions.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Sharmayne Ariel Rollinson, 40, of 1415 Hidden Court, Charlotte, NC. Rollinson was charged with one count of insurance fraud, a felony.

According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Rollinson attempted to defraud Allstate Insurance Company. She filed a claim on a rental vehicle for an auto insurance policy.

According to the arrest warrant, the offenses occurred on Aug. 29, 2023.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Kevin Abron Wade, 53, of 12514 Rolling Rock Court, Charlotte, NC. Wade was charged with one count of insurance fraud which is a felony.

According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Wade attempted to defraud Minnesota Life Insurance Company by forging an agent’s name to receive a disability insurance policy.

According to the arrest warrant, the offenses occurred on Aug. 15, 2023.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Eric Jahmal Simpson, 53, of 5231 Penrith Drive, Apt. D, Durham. Simpson was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

According to special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Simpson attempted to obtain $6,706.66 from Sentry Insurance for lost wages following an automobile crash.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Rachel Nicole Conley, 42, of 378 North Rhododendron Road, Almond, NC. Conley was charged with one count of insurance fraud, a felony.

According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Conley attempted to defraud American Family Life Assurance Company by issuing false statements on an insurance policy.

According to the criminal summons, the offenses occurred on July 7, 2023.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Miyah Shonae Williams, 24, of 2620 Brick Capitol Court, Sanford, NC. Williams was charged with identity theft and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies. She was also charged with false statements in applications for insurance, a misdemeanor.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Brody Alan Hankinson, 48, of 105 Whispering Pines Drive, Marion, NC. Hankinson is charged with three counts of extortion, all felonies.

According to special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Hankinson violently threatened three insurance agents from NC Farm Bureau Insurance because he said he had yet to be paid from a claim that he filed. Special agents and Farm Bureau have alleged that Hankinson’s claim is fraudulent.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Chastity Lavonn Washington, 49, of 147 N. Hillside Street, Rutherfordton, NC. Washington was charged with one count of identity theft, a felony.

According to special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Washington acquired the identity of another person to obtain automobile insurance in order to file a false accident claim.

According to the arrest warrants, the offenses occurred on Jan. 10, 2023.
