North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest Clayton Elof Peterson, 44, of 1006 Gateway Ave., Wilkesboro. Peterson was charged with one count of insurance fraud and two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, all felonies.

Special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Peterson of falsifying a medical claim form, including the physician’s information and submitting it to American Health and Life Insurance Company. 

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today congratulated the state’s Captive Insurance Program for topping 1,500 licensed entities since the program began 10 years ago.

“Since the passage of the Captive Insurance Act 10 years ago, North Carolina’s program has experienced tremendous growth,” Commissioner Causey said. “I am excited that the Department’s Captive Insurance Program continues to attract businesses to our state.”

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Anthony Dashawn Hudson, 25, of 1884 Rebecca Kennedy Road, Rocky Point, N.C. Hudson was charged with the burning of personal property, insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense. All three charges are felonies.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today said “No” to the insurance companies’ average 42.2% proposed increase in homeowners’ insurance rates. 

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will present a Heroism Award to honor a bus driver who helped save the lives of 38 children during a visit to Harnett County on Friday, Feb. 2.

Commissioner Causey will present the award to Monica Tyson-Crawford during the Benhaven Elementary School’s awards ceremony.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will be present an Order of the Guardian Award during a trip to Craven County on Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Commissioner Causey will present the award to State Farm Insurance Agent Bill Autry, who has more than 50 years of service in the insurance industry, during a ceremony at his office in New Bern at 11:30 a.m.

The Order of the Guardian Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Department of Insurance.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Montavia Miguel Moody, 34, 153 Birch Lane, Seaboard. Moody was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Moody of presenting a forged doctor’s note to Integon Insurance Co. after a car accident in an effort to receive payment of lost wages. The offense occurred on July 22, 2023.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Troy Jermaine Johnson, 43, of 1533 Pleasant Garden Lane, Raleigh. Johnson was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Johnson of providing false documents and statements to Progressive Premier Insurance Co. of Illinois in an attempt to collect on a $3,000 automobile insurance claim. The offense occurred March 13, 2023.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will speak at the Watkins Community Volunteer Fire Department’s annual Fireman of the Year dinner on Saturday, Jan. 27. 

During the dinner, Commissioner Causey will make a special award presentation.

The dinner will be held at the Watkins Community Volunteer Fire Department, 1590 Horseshoe Bend Road, Henderson, N.C. 27537. The dinner begins at 6 p.m.
