North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Malachi Elijah Robinson, 21, of 217 Paula Drive, Angier. Robinson is charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Robinson of attempting to obtain $7,500 from Integon National Insurance Co. in an automobile insurance claim by providing a fraudulent medical receipt and statement.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jeremy Tyler Harris, 25, of 1305 Vine St., Greensboro. Harris was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Harris of falsely reporting to National General Insurance Co. that his 2021 Dodge Charger had been stolen and he was not the driver of the car involved in a hit-and-run crash.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Leon M. Lewis, 39, of 1614 Daley Circle, Concord, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Lewis of falsely claiming to Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance that a toilet leak caused approximately $12,000 damage to his music recording equipment while his renters insurance policy was in effect.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Ebony Nicole Holsey, 27, of 1311 Flag St., Greensboro, was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Holsey of obtaining $35,701.26 from State Farm Insurance by presenting fraudulent photos and documents of smoke damage from a kitchen fire involving a renters’ insurance policy.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Unique Rae-Sharnette Sessoms, 23, of 722 Woodland Road, Raleigh. Sessoms was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Sessoms of falsely claiming an automobile accident occurred after she called Sentry Insurance Co. to reduce the deductible on her insurance policy.

The North Carolina Department of Insurance along with lumber grading agencies and the American Lumber Standards Council (ALSC) and American Wood Council (AWC) are providing updates and technical information pertaining to the use of European lumber and other lumber species not addressed specifically in the current N.C. Residential Building Code.

This guidance is provided to clarify any misinterpretations from the initial guidance provided in June during the lumber shortage stemming from the pandemic supply chain.

In recognition of Fire Prevention Week 2021, which runs from Oct. 3-9, Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey is urging everyone to uphold this year’s campaign theme, “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety.”

“It’s important to learn the different sounds of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. When an alarm makes noise — a beeping sound or a chirping sound — you must take action!” said Commissioner Causey. “Make sure everyone in the home understands the sounds of the alarms and knows how to respond.”

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Amber Lee Chancey, 35, of 922 Alma Road, Maxton. Chancey was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Chancey of providing false and misleading information in an automobile insurance policy claim with Progressive Premier Insurance Co. of Illinois, including reporting inaccurate dates of when the damage occurred.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Cameron Russell Huffman, 24, of 2725 Webb St., Raleigh. Huffman was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, a felony.

Special agents for the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Huffman, the owner of Oak City Tree Service LLC., of obtaining $20,000 from a customer after advertising that his company had full liability insurance coverage.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Martha Jeffries Inman, 68, and her son, Cecil Dwayne Roberson, 43, both of 150 Whitney Lane, Stoneville, were charged with insurance fraud.

Inman was also charged with obtaining property by false pretense. Robinson was also charged with aiding and abetting Inman in obtaining property by false pretense. All the charges are felonies.
