North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Tiaania Marie Melvin, 19, of 816 Lisbon St., Clinton. Melvin was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Melvin of telling Progressive Insurance Co. that damage to her 2017 Dodge Journey occurred on Nov. 7, 2020, when it occurred before she took out the insurance policy.
The offense occurred on Nov. 9, 2020.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jamie Michelle Barker, 32, of 295 Ed Alston Road, Warrenton. Barker is charged with insurance fraud, a felony.
According to the arrest warrant, Barker filed a claim with Progressive Insurance Co. on July 22, 2020, saying damage to her automobile was caused by vandalism. She filed another claim for the same damage, saying that it was caused by a collision with a deer on Oct. 18, 2020, the warrant says.

The number of risk- bearing captive entities licensed or approved (including conditional licenses and approvals) since inception through year-end 2020 exceeded the 1000 milestone rising to 1,081.

Marstin was charged with eight counts of insurance fraud, four counts of obtaining property by false pretense and four counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, all felonies.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Chad Jason Cady, 47, of 113 Pintail Lane, Rocky Mount, and Donna Scaff Cady, 50, of 730 Tyson Loop, Spring Hope. They were charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey took the oath of office for his second term as North Carolina’s Insurance Commissioner today (Saturday, Jan. 9).
Commissioner Causey was sworn in by North Carolina Chief Justice Paul Newby in a socially distanced ceremony on the Executive Mansion grounds, along with Gov. Roy Cooper, Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson and other Council of State members.

“The data in the filing has not convinced me that such a drastic increase is necessary,” said Commissioner Causey. “My goal is to find a rate that will make financial sense for our residents and keep our insurance companies healthy enough to pay claims.”

Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Collins of obtaining $2,601.25 from Aflac for medical visits that did not occur.
