North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will present grant checks to rural volunteer fire departments and speak to county leaders during a visit to Rockingham County on Monday, July 13.

Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will be visiting several fire departments during the daylong visit to Rockingham County. Commissioner Causey will also present ceremonial grant checks to the Shiloh Fire Department and Yanceyville Road Fire Department. The matching grants help fire departments pay for equipment.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will be in Cumberland County on Thursday, July 9, to visit fire departments, an insurance agency and present the Safe Kids NC Coalition of the Year award to Safe Kids Cumberland County.

In 2017 North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey met with the officials of health insurer Centene regarding approval of their policies in North Carolina. During these discussions, Centene officials expressed their interest in expanding their business in North Carolina, potentially moving their business to North Carolina.

This week, the fruits of those talks paid off.  Centene Corp., a St. Louis-based health insurance company, announced on Wednesday, July 1, it will break ground as early as August on its new East Coast headquarters in Charlotte.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Reneeca Jagnarain, 21, of 812 Fairview Drive, Lexington, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special Agents accuse Jagnarain of attempting to obtain $3,186.87 from National General Insurance by claiming that damage to her vehicle occurred on Sept. 21, 2019, when it actually occurred before she took out an auto insurance policy on Sept. 13, 2019.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Hunter Jacob Priest, 28, of 5223 Meadowbrook Drive, New Bern. Priest was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Priest of providing a false statement to Geico Insurance regarding his involvement in a wreck Nov. 14, 2019, in Morehead City.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Tanisha Shantell Herring, 28, of 107 Duff Creek Drive, Teachey. Herring was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

Herring is accused of filing an insurance claim with Integon Indemnity Corp. for damage to her vehicle that had already been claimed.

The offense occurred between Jan. 23 and Jan. 27.

The 4th of July is synonymous with barbecues, parades and fireworks. However, this year, many Independence Day celebrations could look differently due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result of the coronavirus situation, many professional fireworks display shows have been canceled -- but that does not mean people should have your own backyard fireworks show.

If fireworks are not handled properly, celebrations could end with a trip to the hospital.

As the summer heat cranks up in North Carolina, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey and Safe Kids North Carolina reminds people of the dangers of leaving children in cars by re-launching our statewide summer safety campaign: “Baby, It’s Hot Inside.”

Commissioner Causey, who also serves as the Chair of Safe Kids North Carolina, will kick-off this campaign with a hot-cars demonstration at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Burlington Fire Station 4 in Burlington, N.C.  This demonstration will show how quickly a vehicle can heat to dangerous, sometimes deadly temperatures.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has obtained and distributed 10,000 respirator masks to use as personal protective equipment (PPE) for firefighters on the front line battling the coronavirus.

“Our firefighters need to be protected as they perform the important duty of ensuring our COVID-19 patients get the proper care needed, “said Commissioner Causey.  “These masks will go a long way towards keeping the virus at bay as our heroes across the state join the fight against this unprecedented virus.”

Insurance Commissioner and Safe Kids N.C. Chair Mike Causey is proud to announce the winners of four Safe Kids North Carolina awards for outstanding work in providing service to keep kids and families safe in North Carolina.

These award presentations are usually held at the Safe Kids NC Conference but because of the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s conference was cancelled.
