It’s no secret the number of North Carolinians who have died this year due to fire is hovering at an alarming rate. With that in mind, Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey is pleased to announce the Guil-Rand Fire Department is teaching children not only to prevent fires, but to fight fires at its Kids Camp in Archdale.

On Friday, July 20, 50 children between the ages of 7 and 10 will take part in a firefighter challenge as they show off the skills they learned throughout this week at camp.

The media is invited to watch as the children work together to extinguish a live fire under the supervision of trained professionals. Teams will also compete in a firefighter competition including a fire hose pull, ladder climb and an old-fashioned bucket brigade race.

The teams will also show off the fire safety and emergency preparedness lessons learned throughout the week, such as water safety and CPR.

The camp is an exciting opportunity for first responders to spread the message of fire safety and spark an interest in public service for the future leaders of our communities.
