North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Amarri Tanae Jones, 27, of 40 Sisters Ln., Franklinton. Jones is charged with two counts of obtaining property by false pretense. Both charges are felonies.

According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Jones collected a total of $950 after presenting a 2003 Nissan Maxima and a 2011 Volvo XC60 for sale. Investigators later determined neither of these vehicles belonged to her.

The incident occurred on April 17, 2024, according to the warrant.

Jones was arrested on July 22 and was held at the Wake County Detention Center. She appeared in Wake County District Court on July 29.

“Many thanks to our agents for cracking this case,” Commissioner Causey said. “Insurance-related crimes can often touch many types of different situations, including involvement in other types of criminal activity.”
