North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the North Carolina Department of Insurance has entered into a voluntary settlement agreement with Gerber Life Insurance Company that includes a $1.1 million penalty for numerous violations related to its claims practices for accidental death and dismemberment policies.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will visit fire stations and insurance agencies during a trip to Iredell County on Thursday, Aug. 20.



Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will stop by three fire stations Thursday morning. He will discuss the need to improve volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention and listen to firefighters’ concerns.

The Safe Kids N.C. team is partnering with law enforcement agencies and first responders to ensure children are secured in a properly installed child safety seat when riding in a vehicle to save lives.

During a stop at the Robeson County Emergency Management Center, Commissioner Causey will present ceremonial matching grant checks to 18 local volunteer fire departments.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will join United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA) State Director Robert Hosford Friday in a tour to deliver grant checks to rural fire departments in need of financial assistance.  The USDA Rural Development grants are given to various entities in an effort to revitalize the rural Coastal and Eastern Regions of North Carolina.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will tour a behavioral health center under construction that could help firefighters and first responders cope with stress related to their occupation during a visit to Guilford County on Thursday, Aug. 13.



Commissioner Causey will also visit commercial buildings where developers worked with the Engineering Division of the Office of State Fire Marshal to make sure they complied with building and safety codes.
