North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Tanisha Shantell Herring, 28, of 107 Duff Creek Drive, Teachey. Herring was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.
Herring is accused of filing an insurance claim with Integon Indemnity Corp. for damage to her vehicle that had already been claimed.
The offense occurred between Jan. 23 and Jan. 27.

This demonstration will show how quickly a vehicle can heat to dangerous, sometimes deadly temperatures.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has obtained and distributed 10,000 respirator masks to use as personal protective equipment (PPE) for firefighters on the front line battling the coronavirus.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has issued an advisory to all life insurers writing individual and group coverage in North Carolina of their obligation to pay death benefits as required by law. The advisory was issued at the request of the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner who has been receiving consumer inquiries due to the delayed payment of life insurance benefits because death certificates were issued with the cause of death listed as “pending.”
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey is proud to announce that Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina has donated $500,000 to assist rural volunteer fire departments as part of their Rural NC Initiative for 2020.
This grant money was deposited in the nonprofit North Carolina Firefighters Fund.
The N.C. Department of Insurance’s Office of State Fire Marshal, in cooperation with the N.C. State Firefighters Association and N.C. Firefighters Fund, will distribute this grant money to 94 departments in 36 rural counties.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Charmyne Altrease Bull, 32, of 5801 Nottoway Court, Raleigh. Bull was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.
Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Bull of receiving $7,457.28 from a USAA Insurance Co. renters’ insurance claim by providing false documents for proof of loss.
The offenses occurred between April 14, 2019, and April 2, 2020.
With the 2020 hurricane season in full swing, North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey urges all North Carolinians to prepare for the potential of extreme weather during the coming months.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to Nov. 30. Weather experts predict an above normal hurricane season for 2020.
