As Hurricane Isaias nears the North Carolina coast, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey urges North Carolinians to protect their home and property by following some simple instructions before the storm hits.  Forecasters predict Isaias to be a Category 1 hurricane as it approaches North Carolina with wind gusts that could cause substantial damage to residents’ property.

“The most important thing is to take action now,” said Commissioner Causey. “Preparing before the storm’s impact is the best way to mitigate damage that could cost residents thousands of dollars,” he added.

In recognition of National Pet Fire Safety Month, which runs through July, Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey reminds communities how to protect their homes and furry friends from the dangers of fire.

Commissioner Causey is proud to announce that Kidde Fire Safety is donating 50 pet oxygen face masks (an estimated $5,000 donation) to the North Carolina Department of Insurance and Office of State Fire Marshal to distribute to local fire departments across North Carolina.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey welcomed President Donald Trump to the Research Triangle area today to visit the FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies (FDB) Innovation Center where a potential coronavirus vaccine is under development.  The vaccine is currently in Phase I vaccine trials where the safety of the vaccine will be tested in a very small group of adults. The President toured the Center and talked with management about the progress being made with the vaccine.  Commissioner Causey appreciated the President’s positive remarks.  

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will honor a Durham County coalition dedicated to preventing childhood injuries during a visit to the Triangle county on Monday, July 27.

During the morning, Commissioner Causey will visit area insurance agencies. During the afternoon, Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will visit fire stations, where he will witness some specialized programs in the Durham fire service. He will also listen to agents’ and firefighters’ concerns and discuss his initiatives.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will stop by fire stations and an emergency services center during a trip to Harnett and Lee counties on Monday, July 20.

Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will discuss efforts to improve volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention during the stops. He will also listen to firefighters’ concerns.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will present grant checks to rural volunteer fire departments and speak to county leaders during a visit to Rockingham County on Monday, July 13.

Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will be visiting several fire departments during the daylong visit to Rockingham County. Commissioner Causey will also present ceremonial grant checks to the Shiloh Fire Department and Yanceyville Road Fire Department. The matching grants help fire departments pay for equipment.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will be in Cumberland County on Thursday, July 9, to visit fire departments, an insurance agency and present the Safe Kids NC Coalition of the Year award to Safe Kids Cumberland County.

In 2017 North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey met with the officials of health insurer Centene regarding approval of their policies in North Carolina. During these discussions, Centene officials expressed their interest in expanding their business in North Carolina, potentially moving their business to North Carolina.

This week, the fruits of those talks paid off.  Centene Corp., a St. Louis-based health insurance company, announced on Wednesday, July 1, it will break ground as early as August on its new East Coast headquarters in Charlotte.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Reneeca Jagnarain, 21, of 812 Fairview Drive, Lexington, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special Agents accuse Jagnarain of attempting to obtain $3,186.87 from National General Insurance by claiming that damage to her vehicle occurred on Sept. 21, 2019, when it actually occurred before she took out an auto insurance policy on Sept. 13, 2019.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Hunter Jacob Priest, 28, of 5223 Meadowbrook Drive, New Bern. Priest was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Priest of providing a false statement to Geico Insurance regarding his involvement in a wreck Nov. 14, 2019, in Morehead City.
