Barnhardt is charged with 22 counts of financial identity theft, 25 counts of common law forgery and 25 counts of obtaining property by false pretense. All charges are felonies.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is alerting North Carolinians to be on the lookout for a new phone scam making the rounds across the state, leading to several recent arrests.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced a settlement with the N.C. Rate Bureau on automobile insurance rates.

The settlement provides for an average statewide increase of 5%. The settlement is 17.6 percentage points lower than what the Rate Bureau requested in February. The agreement also includes an average statewide 16.3% decrease in motorcycle liability insurance rates.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Tracy Lee Davie, 56, of 529 Moultonboro Ave., Wake Forest. Davie was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Davie of receiving $18,752.25 from USAA Insurance by submitting fabricated statements for services not provided in a homeowners’ insurance claim.

The offenses occurred on Oct. 21, 2024. Davie was arrested on June 3 and given an $8,000 secured bond.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Sandra Renee Singleton, 49, of 404 Benson St., Reidsville, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Singleton of attempting to obtain a payment from Government Employees Insurance Co. by falsely claiming she received back and knee injuries when another vehicle struck her vehicle.

The offenses occurred on Feb. 17.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Edgar Octavio Ambrocio Perez, 26, of 909 Grace Ave., Burlington. Perez was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Perez of obtaining $8,736.56 from Specialty Insurance Co. by collecting temporary disability payments that he was not entitled to receive.
