With hurricane season beginning Sunday, June 1, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey urges residents to get ready now, as forecasters are predicting another extremely active season.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasts 19 named storms, nine hurricanes and four major hurricanes for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, which runs through Nov. 30.

Woolledge is charged with one count of insurance fraud. Brown is charged with one count of insurance fraud and one count of obtaining property by false pretense.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that he has fined two insurance companies, The Members Insurance Co. and Universal Insurance Co., $113,000 following a market conduct examination.
Members and Universal, which are licensed to write private passenger automobile and homeowners’ insurance policies in North Carolina, are owned by Auto Club Group.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today that Damain Rayshawn Cummings, 30, of 1401 Chamblee Road, Zebulon, was charged with 21 insurance-related crimes. The charges included six counts of identity theft, six counts of insurance fraud, six counts of obtaining property by false pretense and three counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Nigel Marquise Vines, 39, of 1239 Kelston Place, Charlotte. Vines was charged with three counts of insurance fraud, all felonies.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Vines of submitting altered invoices on three renters’ insurance claims with State Farm Insurance Co., two in Mecklenburg County and one in Gaston County. Special agents say the claims involved water damage to clothes.
