Resident Fingerprint Requirements

Insurance Producer License Applicants 

Applicants for a Resident Insurance Producer’s License must give the Commissioner a complete set of their fingerprints, North Carolina G.S. 58-33-48. Fingerprints are not required for non-resident insurance producer license applicants. Insurance producers licensed prior to 10/1/2010 do not need to submit fingerprints for additional line of authority/licenses unless there are certain lapses of license authority. Applicants required to submit fingerprints and submission requirements are outlined in North Carolina Administrative Code 11 NCAC 06A.0418.

Initial applicants for Insurance Producer Licenses will need to submit fingerprints within 30 days of applying for a license. Once the application is submitted, follow the instructions, by clicking the link in the email notification from the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Fingerprint submission forms and instructions are only available after a resident application is submitted.

Public Adjuster License Applicants

An applicant for a Resident Public Adjuster License is required to give the Commissioner a complete set of their fingerprints for a state and federal criminal history background check, North Carolina G.S. 58-33A-15. Fingerprints are not required for non-resident public adjuster license applicants.

Business Entities acting as a public adjuster in North Carolina are required to obtain a license as a Public Adjuster. Resident Business Entities acting as a Public Adjuster are also required to submit fingerprints for a state and federal criminal history background check for each “key person”. A “key person” is considered an owner, partner, officer or director of the business entity, or member or manager of a limited liability company.

Applicants for a Public Adjuster license and "key persons" of Public Adjuster Business Entities need to submit fingerprints within 30 days of applying for a license. Once the application is submitted, follow the instructions, by clicking the link in the email notification from the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Applicants required to submit fingerprints and submission requirements are outlined in North Carolina Administrative Code 11 NCAC 06A.0906. Fingerprint submission forms and instructions are only available after a resident application is submitted.
