North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will meet with the Hickory City Council to announce the city’s new fire insurance rating on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will also deliver a ceremonial matching grant check during a stop at a Catawba County fire station. He will also visit an insurance agency during the trip.

Fire stations are inspected by the Office of State Fire Marshal. The insurance rating that results from the inspection can affect the homeowners’ and business insurance premiums in the fire district.

Commissioner Causey will also present a matching grant check to the Propst Crossroad Volunteer Fire Department Tuesday afternoon. Statewide, departments have received more than $8.5 million in matching grants this year through the matching grant program.

While meeting with firefighters, Commissioner Causey will listen to their concerns and discuss efforts to improve volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention.

During the insurance agency visit, Commissioner Causey will listen to agents’ concerns and discuss his efforts to make the Department of Insurance more consumer friendly.
