RALEIGH
Jan 18, 2022

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Tammy Felicia Flythe, 42, of 204 Martin St., Conway. Flythe was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Flythe of falsely telling Progressive Premier Insurance Co. that damage to her vehicle occurred as a result of a Feb. 26, 2021, crash in an attempt to collect on a $3,783.72 claim.

According to the arrest warrant, the damages had been filed in a 2019 claim, which had already been paid.

The offenses occurred between Feb. 26, 2021, and Jan. 10, 2022.

Flythe was arrested on Jan. 12. She is due in Northampton County District Court on Jan. 20.

“Property and casualty insurance fraud costs insurance customers an estimated $120 billion a year in increased premiums,” said Commissioner Causey. “The Department of Insurance has beefed up its fraud-fighting staff in an effort to make more arrests to keep fraud from driving up insurance costs.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840. Information is also available at www.ncdoi.gov.
