Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey to announce new Pinehurst fire insurance rating, honor Scotland County firefighters on Thursday

RALEIGH

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will announce a new fire protection rating and honor firefighters during a trip to Moore and Scotland counties on Thursday, March 17.

Commissioner Causey, who also serves as the State Fire Marshal, will announce a new insurance rating for Pinehurst.

The Village of Pinehurst Fire Department recently underwent an inspection by the Office of State Fire Marshal. A fire department’s rating affects homeowners’ and business insurance premiums and helps signal how prepared firefighters are at responding to calls and battling blazes in their fire districts.

The new ratings will become effective for insurance policies on June 1.

Commissioner Causey will also be honoring five Scotland County firefighters (Bradley Strickland, David Evans, Bryant Wright, Chris Squaraz and Al German) for their life-saving actions.

SAVE Awards go to individuals or organizations who go above and beyond the call of duty to save lives.

On Jan. 21, Laurinburg firefighters responded to a house fire at 9:30 a.m. Five occupants had escaped. Firefighters searched the building and found one victim, who was rescued and air-lifted to Chapel Hill.  The home was declared a total loss and appeared to be cooking related. No smoke alarms were present.

Here is Commissioner Causey’s public schedule for Thursday, March 17:

10:00 a.m. – Village of Pinehurst Fire Department
395 Magnolia Road, Pinehurst, N.C. 28374

1:00 p.m. – Laurinburg South Fire Department
1547 Hickory St., Laurinburg, N.C. 28352
