The North Carolina Department of Insurance, in partnership with the Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP), will host a Hot Car and Holiday Travel Safety press conference this week to provide hot weather and holiday safety travel tips to the public.

N.C. Commissioner of Insurance Mike Causey, Governor’s Highway Safety Program Director Mark Ezzell and Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell will join other state officials to provide remarks to the media.

The press conference will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2 at the Interstate Rest Area on the eastbound side of Interstate 40, 1 Medical Drive in Benson.

Each year children, pets and senior citizens tragically die from heatstroke after being left in hot vehicles. The event will also highlight road safety during the upcoming July 4th holiday. This event seeks to educate the public, highlight safety precautions and promote vigilance during summer months.

Credentialled members of the media are invited to attend.

(Please note: This event will be held at the eastbound rest area and not the westbound rest area across the interstate at N. Walden Pond Road.)
