North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Alexea Maurice Houston, 44, of 1122 Holmes St., Salisbury, was charged with obtaining property by false pretense.

Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Houston of cashing a check from his insurance company after he had requested a stop-payment action on the check, saying he had not received the check from the insurance company.

The offense occurred on Jan. 19.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Tieara Brewer, 28, of 1122 E. Ellerbee St., Durham. Brewer was charged with two counts of insurance fraud, one count of obtaining property by false pretense, and one count of an attempt to obtain property by false pretense, all felonies. Ms. Brewer was also charged with filing a false police report by Durham police related to this matter.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Andrico Dekwan Brooks, 31, of 129 Cherry Knoll Drive, Rutherfordton. Brooks was charged with two counts of felony insurance fraud.

Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Brooks of altering the amounts on two towing receipts provided to his insurance company to increase the claims payment.

The offenses occurred on Feb. 2.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Karen Denice Patillo, 56, of 101 Rock Haven Road, Carrboro, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Patillo of being involved in a vehicle accident on Nov. 23, 2022, and adding insurance coverage after the accident.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Latissue Relisa Watlington, 43, of 101 Steve Smith Road, Yanceyville, was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Watlington of submitting a false medical document to State Farm Mutual Insurance Co. claiming $8,956 in medical bills after an automobile accident. According to the arrest warrant, the insurance company paid that amount to the provider.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Raleigh Fuller, 51, of 1014 Greys Land Court, Kernersville, and Scott Baylor, 31, of 240 E. Salisbury St., Robbins, were charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering. Baylor was also charged with Injury to real property, a misdemeanor.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Fuller and Baylor, both bailbondsmen, of forcibly entering into a third-party residence without consent from the tenant.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Saundra Danielle Motley, 29, of 1327 N. Dunleith Ave., Winston Salem. Motley was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.  

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Motley of obtaining $20,895.88 from Peak Property and Casualty Insurance by falsely reporting the day of her automobile crash.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Jackie Octavia Cozart, 31, of 504 Leach St., Biscoe, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Cozart of falsely telling National General Insurance Co. that her vehicle was involved in a crash after she took out her insurance policy in an attempt to get the insurance company to pay for the vehicle damage.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Tyjuan Terrell Adams, 33, of 902 Hall St., Greensboro, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Adams of falsely telling Integon Indemnity Corp. that his wife’s vehicle was stolen in an attempt to collect on a claim.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Tony Olandy Burt, 49, of 1118 Parker St., Raleigh. Burt was charged with one count of common law uttering (passing a check) and one count of obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Burt of depositing a $993.33 fraudulent check and then withdrawing $225 from the account.

The offenses occurred on June 9.
