North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Terrell Deon-Ellis Johnson, 41, of 4219 Waterford Valley Circle, Charlotte, was charged with felony attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Johnson of obtaining an auto insurance policy from National General Insurance Co. the afternoon of Dec. 12, 2018, after his vehicle had been involved in an accident earlier that morning.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Madalena Carroll Nisi, 52, of 1443 Overbrook Lane, Denver, was charged with felony insurance fraud.
According to a criminal summons, Nisi’s vehicle was involved in a wreck on Nov. 30, 2018, at approximately 12:37 p.m. She called Geico at 12:50 p.m. that day to reinstate her lapsed coverage, the summons says.
Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division say Nisi then filed a claim with the insurance company, saying the wreck occurred at 1 p.m. on that date.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jeneva Powell, 25, of 578 Island Creek Road, Castle Hayne. Powell was charged with felony insurance fraud.
Special Agents with the Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division accuse Powell of falsely reporting to Nationwide Insurance Co. the details of how damage occurred to her SUV when, in fact, the damage was the result of an argument between Powell and her boyfriend.
According to the arrest warrant, the offense occurred on Nov. 1, 2018.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Amanda Rae Mace, 39, of 134 Ludlow Drive, Wilmington. Mace was charged with embezzlement by an insurance agent, a felony.
Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Mace of embezzling $2,270 in premium payments from a client.
The offense occurred on July 27, 2018.
Mace was arrested on Nov. 25 and given a $2,500 unsecured bond.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Christopher Perrin McCall, 45, of 3747 Camp Stewart Road, Charlotte. McCall was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, a felony.
Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse McCall of receiving $2,472.61 from The Travelers Home and Marine Insurance Co. for auto parts that were not installed.
The offense occurred on March 6.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Lizbeth Cabrera Appleget, 30, of 109 Weaver St., Randleman. Appleget was charged with felony insurance fraud.
According to the arrest warrant, Appleget provided a fraudulent tow bill to Geico to support a claim that her auto was damaged after a policy was in effect. However, the damage to her vehicle occurred when she had no coverage on it, the warrant says.
The offense occurred between Dec. 14-26, 2018.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Calleigh Marie Grennier, 29, of 110 S. Lakeside Drive, Smithfield. Grennier was charged with felony insurance fraud
Special Agents with the Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division accuse Grennier of making a false and misleading statement regarding an auto insurance claim. According to the arrest warrant, Grennier falsely said she was not driving a car involved in an accident.
The offense occurred between July 4, 2018, and March 27, 2019.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Brendal Scott Epling, 30, of 220 Newbury Park Way, Apex. Epling was charged with felony insurance fraud.
Special Agents with the Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division accuse Epling of falsely telling Progressive Casualty Insurance Co. that he and his two minor children were injured during an auto wreck, when none of the three were in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
The offense occurred between Nov. 3-26, 2018.
