Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey reminds Medicare beneficiaries to compare and evaluate their current plans and make necessary changes during the annual Open Enrollment Period, Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, 2020. Medicare plans and prices change. It is important for Medicare beneficiaries to take advantage of the Open Enrollment Period by contacting local Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) counselors to save money, improve coverage or both.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, along with the Federal Trade Commission and more than 50 federal and state law enforcement partners, announced today a nationwide law enforcement initiative to protect consumers from abusive and threatening debt collection practices.

The initiative, called Operation Corrupt Collector, is a federal-state law enforcement sweep that includes enforcement actions brought by the FTC, three federal partners and partners from 16 different state agencies against debt collectors engaged in these illegal practices. 
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey’s plans to visit Surry and Yadkin counties on Monday, Sept. 28, and deliver ceremonial grant checks to fire stations in both counties.

Thirteen volunteer fire departments in Surry County are receiving matching grants totaling more than $175,000. Five volunteer fire departments in Yadkin County are receiving matching grants totaling more than $136,000.

Department of Insurance.  During the visit, the impersonator tells the resident, because they were between the ages 50 to 85, they had been selected to receive free health insurance that covers medical, vision, dental and life.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded a $392,998 Assistance to Firefighters Grant to the Office of State Fire Marshal.

The grant will help the Office of State Fire Marshal provide the most up-to-date training with state-of-the-art equipment.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey’s will focus on storm preparedness and fire prevention on Monday, Sept. 21, as he visits with first responders and insurance agents during a visit to Durham and Orange counties.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Anthony Delon Liles, 37, of 110 Stoney Drive, Durham, was charged with two counts of insurance fraud and one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, all felonies.

Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Liles of attempting to collect on an auto insurance claim from Progressive Premier Insurance Co. by obtaining an auto policy online after a vehicle crash and claiming the wreck occurred after he obtained the policy.
