North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey on Monday will honor a 17-year-old Eagle Scout candidate whose efforts to raise $2,500 to buy turnout gear for one firefighter ballooned into enough money to outfit the entire volunteer fire department.
Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will present matching grant checks to eight Edgecombe County volunteer fire departments during a visit to Tarboro.
The presentations will take place during a 7 p.m. meeting of the Edgecombe County Commissioners.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey on Wednesday will honor two Raleigh firefighters who went more than the extra mile to help the victim of a New Year’s Eve fire.
Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will present Commissioner’s Awards to Capt. Dena Ali and Lt. Marcus Horne at Station 11, 2925 Glenridge Road, Raleigh, at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 28.

During a visit to Carteret County on Monday, July 19, North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will speak at the Building Inspector’s Conference in Atlantic Beach and present the Commissioner’s Award to Richard A. “Dick” Lewis for outstanding service over 50 years with State Farm.
In his address to the Building Inspector’s Conference, Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will discuss the Office of State Fire Marshal’s role in overseeing building inspectors in North Carolina.

As temperatures heat up with the onset of summer, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey reminds North Carolinians of the dangers of leaving children and pets inside cars.
“The fun of summer can quickly become tragic if parents mistakenly leave their child or pet inside a car,” said Commissioner Causey. “It only takes 10 minutes for the temperature to rise to dangerous levels, so be sure to look before you lock.”
