North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Tammie Teresia Kelly, 57, of 1806 Cadiz St., Burlington, was charged with two counts of insurance fraud and one count of obtaining property by false pretense, all felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Kelly of taking out an automobile insurance policy with National General Insurance Co. in her deceased sister’s name, filing a claim under that fraudulent policy and receiving money from the claim.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Marie Diehl, 35, of 2305 E. 14th St., Greenville. Diehl was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Diehl of falsely telling Progressive Casualty Insurance Co. that damage to her vehicle as a result of a collision with an animal occurred after she took out an automobile policy when it actually occurred before.

The offense occurred on Oct. 22, 2019.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Daquan Harris, 27, of 306 O’Connor St., Greensboro. Harris was charged with insurance fraud, conspiracy and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, all felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Harris of attempting to obtain money from Republic Western Insurance Co. by filing a fraudulent claim for injuries sustained in a staged automobile collision.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Demetria Williams, 44, of 32 Resa Loop Drive, Lumberton. Williams was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Williams of filing an automobile damage claim with Integon Indemnity Corp. that had been filed with the same company on a previous claim.

The offense occurred between Aug. 16, 2020, and Aug. 18, 2020.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jamie Keith Buchanan, 52, of 452 Dalton Road, Sylva. Buchanan was charged with two counts of obtaining property by false pretense and exploitation of an elder’s trust, all felonies.  He was also charged with misdemeanor count of setting up a mobile home without a mobile home set-up license.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has urged North Carolinians to use an extra measure of caution, especially when using portable heaters during the winter season. Unfortunately, portable heaters can ignite, as one did in Moore County Thursday, where the family escaped but lost their home.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Mary Nicole Midgett, 33, of 114 Eagle Drive, Kill Devil Hills. Midgett was charged with three counts of making false statements to obtain unemployment benefits, three counts of obtaining property by false pretense, three counts of unauthorized access to government computers and one count of conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense, all felonies.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Ayana Antoinette Armstrong, 32, of 3630 Concord Pointe Lane Southwest, Concord, was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Armstrong of forging her doctor’s signature to short-term disability claim forms submitted to Lincoln Financial Group to obtain $10,468.43 in benefits.
