North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Ronnie Ray Perry, 64, of 1413 E. Third St., Winston Salem. Perry was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Perry of obtaining $22,443.76 from State Farm Insurance Co. for a kitchen fire that did not occur.
The North Carolina Rate Bureau has filed a request with the N.C. Department of Insurance to increase insurance rates for mobile home policies.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, who also serves as the State Fire Marshal, will deliver a check to Bear Grass Fire and Rescue in Williamston during an afternoon visit on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
The purpose of the visits are to deliver funds included in the state budget by the legislature to fire department representatives. Rep. Shelly Willingham will join Commissioner Causey for the 2 p.m. appearance to deliver the $210,000 check.

Bright Health Company of North Carolina will cease selling individual health plans under the Affordable care Act in North Carolina the end of this year.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Melissa Ryan Stein, 40, and Jerome Clayton Holliday, 51, both of 7334 Heritage Lane, Randleman. Stein was charged with insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and felony conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, all felonies. Holliday was charged with conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, a felony.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Toronto Montrell Ruffin, 39, of 3908 W. Vancroft Circle, Greenville. Ruffin was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Ruffin of filing duplicate claims for damage to his vehicle.
The offense occurred on June 6.
Tarboro police arrested Ruffin on Sept. 14. He was released on a written promise to appear in Pitt County District Court on Dec. 7.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey reminds Medicare beneficiaries that the Open Enrollment Period is coming up and suggests that recipients compare plans and make necessary changes during that period.
The Open Enrollment Period begins on Oct. 15 and runs for eight weeks to give you enough time to review and make changes to your Medicare coverage. Changes must be made by Dec. 7 to guarantee your coverage will begin without interruption on Jan. 1, 2023.
