Raleigh
Jan 20, 2017

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Christopher Lamont Mitchell, 29, and Daniela Alysia Coley, 28, of 157 Johns Lane, Bunn; each is charged with one count each of insurance fraud by the North Carolina Department of Insurance and attempting to obtain property by false pretense by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Mitchell and Coley of filing a duplicate claim for damages that had been paid for in a previously claim with USAA Automobile Insurance. Investigators allege Mitchell and Coley filed a false police report claiming the same vehicle was stolen and crashed.

Mitchell was arrested on Jan. 14 in Franklin County and placed under a $25,000 bond. Coley was arrested on Jan. 14 in Franklin County and placed under a $5,000 bond. Both arrests were made by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

An estimated 10 cents of every dollar paid in premiums goes toward the payment of fraudulent claims. The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud.
