North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Wendolyn Diane Yarborough, 56, of 914 Spellman Drive, Fayetteville. Yarborough faces a felony charge of obtaining property by false pretense.
Special Agents with the Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division accuse Yarborough of filing a fraudulent beneficiary administrative form to obtain an insurance claim that she was not entitled to receive.
According to the arrest warrant, Yarborough received $50,074.63 from Primerica Life Insurance Co. because of the claim.
The offense occurred between May 2, 2012, and May 2, 2019. Special Agents arrested Yarborough on May 22 in Cumberland County. She was given a $2,000 unsecured bond.
Fraud is felt every time consumers pay their insurance premiums. Commissioner Causey estimates fraud costs North Carolinians between 15 and 20 cents on every dollar paid on insurance premiums.M
"Insurance fraud affects our economy. Not only does it damage insurance companies, it cheats businesses and consumers too," Commissioner Causey said. "This kind of white-collar crime is unacceptable. That's why I've doubled the number of Special Agents to investigate insurance fraud. Cracking down on fraud will put more money in the pockets of businesses and consumers."
