North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Jeremy Ryan Boroski, 23, of 40966 Mountain View Church Road, Albemarle, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies, along with misdemeanor making a false report to police.
According to the criminal summons, Boroski filed an auto insurance claim with Geico Insurance Co. saying that his vehicle was stolen, knowing that he had wrecked the vehicle and left it on the side of the road. Boroski also filed a stolen vehicle report with the Stanley County Sheriff’s office, according to the summons.
The offenses occurred between April 18 and May 20.
Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division served Boroski with a criminal summons on Sept. 17. He is scheduled to appear in Stanly County District Court on Oct. 19.

Over the past two years, CID Special Agents recovered $7.5 million in damages – money that was returned to consumers and insurance companies. The restitution also helps preserve insurance rates.
