North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Anthony Marquis Byrd Jr., 34, of 7605 Holy Grove Court, Charlotte, was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.
According to the criminal summons, Byrd tried to deceive Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. by misrepresenting where he was sitting in a 2017 Chevrolet when it was involved in a collision.
Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division also accuse Byrd of telling the insurance company that another person was driving the car, when she wasn’t even in the vehicle at the time of the collision, and misrepresented an injury in the wreck.
The offense occurred between Feb. 22 and June 4.
Byrd was served with a criminal summons on Oct. 29. He is due in Mecklenburg County District Court on Dec. 14.
