North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Joshua Ray Wells, 44, of 8101 Prescott Glen Parkway, Waxhaw, was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, a felony, and misdemeanor common law forgery.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Wells of obtaining approximately $32,500 from Elite Team Realty and Property Management by using a fraudulent certificate of insurance to obtain jobs.

According to the criminal summons, Wells changed the name of the insured business on a certificate of insurance to indicate that he had liability and workers’ compensation insurance when he did not have those coverages.

The offenses occurred between Jan. 22 and July 2.

Wells was served with a criminal summons on July 9. He is due in Union County District Court on Aug. 2.
