Rocky Mount woman accused of insurance fraud, altering car title

RALEIGH
Aug 1, 2022

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Kemeya Myesha Pittman, 37, of 1200 Stoneridge Lane, Rocky Mount. Pittman was charged with insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and altering a motor vehicle title, all felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Pittman of attempting to obtain $3,181.41 from Discovery Insurance Co. by altering the car title to make it appear as though she had no liens on her 2017 Nissan Altima.

The offenses occurred between Oct. 17, 2021, and March 15, 2022.

Pittman was arrested in Nash County on July 17 and released on a written promise to appear in court.

Commissioner Causey encourages North Carolinians to help keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspicious fraud.

“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey said. “It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840.
