Apex man charged with insurance fraud involving Rolex watch

Aug 11, 2022

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Alexander Terrell Kirby, 29, of 201 N. Hughes St., Apex. Kirby was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Kirby of attempting to obtain payment from Allstate Insurance Co. on a renter’s insurance claim by providing a fictitious receipt for a Rolex watch.

According to the arrest warrant, Kirby claimed the watch was stolen during a home break-in.

The offenses occurred between Feb. 7 and June 23.

Kirby was arrested on Aug. 1. He was released on $15,000 unsecured bond. He is due in Wake County District Court on Aug. 12.

“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar go to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840.
