Stokes County couple charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrests of Jason William Doss, 45, and Heather Vogler Doss, 35, of 2567 Volunteer Road, Pinnacle, NC. Each is charged with one count of insurance fraud and one count of obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies. Jason Doss was additionally charged with possession of illegal drugs, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, the couple overbilled and made false claims on insurance forms to the North Carolina Farm Bureau, requesting that billing and payments be made to Doss Towing. The investigation and arrests were a coordinated effort in conjunction with the Winston-Salem Police Department.

The arrests were made on April 28 and both were released on a $2,000 secured bond. They are ordered to appear in Forsyth County District Court on May 16.

“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
