Wilson County man charged with insurance fraud

RALEIGH
Jun 12, 2024

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Jason Dale Osborne, 47, of 106 S. Branch St., Elm City, NC. Osborne was charged with one count of insurance fraud, a felony.

According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Osborne obtained an automobile policy of $100,000 after the vehicle that he claimed had been involved in a motor vehicle collision.

According to the arrest warrant, Osborne provided the fraudulent claim on Feb. 14, 2024.

Osborne turned himself in on June 10, was finger-printed, and released on a $10,000 unsecured bond. He appeared in Wilson County District Court on June 11.

“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840 or toll free from anywhere in North Carolina at 888-680-7684.
