Mecklenburg County man charged with insurance fraud

RALEIGH
Apr 30, 2025

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Gregory Alan Williamson Jr., 38, of 3404 Cross Winds Road, Charlotte, has been charged with felony insurance fraud and misdemeanor common law uttering.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Williamson of forging medical leave documents, which recommended leave from work due to injury that he was authorized to receive. The misleading documents resulted in Atlantic Specialty Insurance Co. paying Williamson $6,500 more for missing work than was authorized by his doctor, according to a criminal summons.

The offenses occurred on May 29, 2024.

Williamson was served with a criminal summons and is scheduled to appear in Mecklenburg County District Court on May 23.

Commissioner Causey encourages North Carolinians to help keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspicious fraud.

“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey said. “It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840 or toll free from anywhere in North Carolina at 888-680-7684.
