North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has announced the arrests of Alyssa Cheyenne Woolledge, 30, of 112 Hazel Lane, Troutman, and Michael Anthony Brown, 43, of 143 Perrin Dr., Mooresville. Woolledge is charged with one count of insurance fraud. Brown is charged with one count of insurance fraud and one count of obtaining property by false pretense. All three charges are felonies.
According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Woolledge and Brown collaborated to stage a car accident on Feb. 11 in an attempt to collect insurance money.
Woolledge was arrested on May 1 by Iredell County Sheriff’s officers and released on a $10,000 secured bond. She appeared in Iredell County District Court on May 2.
Brown was arrested on May 7 by Iredell County Sheriff’s officers and later released on a $3,000 secured bond. He appeared in Iredell County District Court on May 8.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
