RALEIGH
May 28, 2025

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Edgar Octavio Ambrocio Perez, 26, of 909 Grace Ave., Burlington. Perez was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Perez of obtaining $8,736.56 from Specialty Insurance Co. by collecting temporary disability payments that he was not entitled to receive.

According to the arrest warrant, Perez was actively working for Donley’s Concrete Group when he received the payments, from Sept. 4, 2024, to Dec. 5, 2024.

Perez was arrested in Robeson County on May 27 and released on $10,000 unsecured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Wake County District Court on May 30.

Commissioner Causey encourages North Carolinians to help keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspicious fraud.

“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey said. “It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840 or toll free from anywhere in North Carolina at 888-680-7684.
