Former Denton fire chief charged with fraud, misusing town’s computers

RALEIGH
Jul 16, 2025

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of the Town of Denton’s former fire chief.

Brandon Allen Dorsett, 37, of Denton was charged with misusing government computers and two counts of fraud, all felonies.

Davidson County deputies arrested Dorsett on July 11. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Davidson County District Court on Aug. 4

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Dorsett of using the town’s computers to falsely report the Denton Fire Department’s training records and certified rosters. The two fraud charges relate to falsifying the rosters and training records.

The offenses occurred between  March 1, 2021, and July 10, 2025.

“I thank our special agents for the hard work they put into this case,” Commissioner Causey said. “While I understand that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty, firefighters and members of the town need to know that the fire department’s actions are above board. Firefighters are dedicated public servants and sacrifice a lot to protect their community.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840 or toll free from anywhere in North Carolina at 888-680-7684.
