North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Kimberly Gilliam, 47, of 720 Farmhurst Dr., Charlotte. Gilliam is charged with insurance fraud, a felony.
According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Gilliam submitted photos she found online while making a claim of flood damage to personal property. The claims were submitted to her rental insurance policy with Homesite Insurance Company of the Midwest.
The incident occurred on Oct. 28, 2024, according to the warrant.
Jones was arrested on Aug. 27 by Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s and released on a $50,000 unsecured bond. She appeared in Mecklenburg County District Court on Aug. 28.
“Insurance fraud hurts all North Carolinians,” Commissioner Causey said. “Insurance crimes can often touch many types of different situations. I’m fighting back by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting these types of crimes.”
