Bail bondsman charged with assault, weapons violation

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has announced the arrest of Jason Vance Ledford, 46, of Orangewood Lane, Newton. Ledford, a bail bondsman, was charged with attempting to discharge a weapon into an occupied vehicle in operation, a felony. He was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor injury to personal property.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Ledford of attempting to fire a weapon into a 2011 Subaru Outback while it was in operation and occupied by Michelle Miller and Christian Morgan.

Ledford is also accused of assaulting Miller and Morgan by driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee into a vehicle occupied by Miller and Morgan. 

According to an arrest warrant, Ledford also fired a handgun at Morgan while he was pursuing Morgan. He is also accused of damaging the Subaru Outback.

The offenses occurred on Jan. 29 in Connelly Springs.

Ledford was given a $450,000 secured bond. He has a hearing on March 3 in Burke County District Court.
