Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey strongly urges all North Carolinians to be vigilant and take precautions as dangerous storms threaten much of the state.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, most of North Carolina faces an increased risk of thunderstorms and tornadoes today, with a Level 4 (out of 5) Risk in the central part of the state, the highest in years.
Commissioner Causey encourages everyone across North Carolina to pay attention and have a plan. “I urge residents to take these severe weather warnings seriously and be aware,” Commissioner Causey said. “Secure your home and protect your family before these storms arrive.”
Commissioner Causey recommends:
- Stay tuned to local TV/radio news for the latest weather updates and instructions.
- Make sure you have a safe place to go if severe weather approaches, like a small interior room in your home. Mobile homes are generally not safe in intense storms, so seek shelter elsewhere.
- Secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, plants, etc.
- Cut dead or weak tree branches close to your home.
- Park vehicles in a garage or away from trees if possible.
- Take a video inventory of belongings in your home for insurance purposes.
