"It was my honor to meet with the residents of Buxton and Dare County today. It was an eye opener and shock to see first-hand the number of homes that have collapsed into the ocean, and the ones on the brink of collapse.
"This is an urgent crisis and should be concerning to every resident of North Carolina, due to the economic impact it has to our state, especially the Outer Banks.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has announced the opening of a Victim Assistance Center (VAC) in Carrboro to help victims of flooding from Tropical Storm Chantal.
Representatives from NCDOI will be present to answer insurance-related questions and to provide assistance.
The VACs will be held from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, Friday, July 11 and on Saturday, July 12 on the first floor of the Drakeford Multipurpose Room, located at 203 S. Greensboro St., Carrboro.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has announced the opening of a Victim Assistance Center (VAC) to help aid those impacted by flooding from Tropical Storm Chantal.
Representatives from NCDOI will be on hand to aid those in need of insurance-related support from the storm.
The VAC will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 10 at the cul-de-sac near 510 Seven Oaks Road in Durham. Commissioner Causey and State Senator Sophia Chitlik will be present.
