Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is joining the Governor's Highway Safety Program, law enforcement agencies and first responders urging parents and caregivers to ensure children are secured in a properly installed child safety seat when riding in a vehicle to save lives.

In recognition of Child Passenger Safety Week that runs Sept. 15-21, Commissioner Causey will be joined by GHSP Director Mark Ezzell on Monday, Sept. 16 at the Huntersville Police Department to show how properly installed child restraints can greatly improve the safety of a child.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced that a Victim Assistance Center (VAC) will be set up in Carolina Shores in Brunswick County on Thursday, Sept. 12.

The N.C. Department of Insurance will have consumer experts on hand to assist area residents with concerns regarding damage from Hurricane Dorian and the tornadoes it spawned.

Commissioner Causey also plans to visit the center around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

With Hurricane Dorian on the path to hit the southeastern states, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is providing the following resources to help prevent the loss of life, minimize property damage, and assist with recovery.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey warned North Carolinians recovering from Hurricane Dorian to use extra caution when approached by public adjusters offering to help with insurance claims.

"While public adjusters can be helpful with some large, complicated claims, unfortunately there are unscrupulous fraud artists out there who prey on victims following natural disasters," Commissioner Causey said. "Following a few simple tips can keep people impacted by Hurricane Dorian from becoming a victim a second time."
