North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Troy Jermaine Johnson, 43, of 1533 Pleasant Garden Lane, Raleigh. Johnson was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Johnson of providing false documents and statements to Progressive Premier Insurance Co. of Illinois in an attempt to collect on a $3,000 automobile insurance claim. The offense occurred March 13, 2023.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that an extensive investigation by special agents within the department’s Criminal Investigations Division has led to charges against two individuals.Maria Nichole Brown, 36, of 2948 Coronet Way, Charlotte, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense. Ronald Wayne Baxter, 52, of 1009 Benning St., Durham, was arrested for possession of stolen goods as part of the same investigation. All three counts are felonies.
North Carolina Commissioner of Insurance Mike Causey has issued the following statement to clear up any confusion regarding the recent filing made by insurance companies:“Many North Carolina citizens have already told me how worried they are about the recent filing made by the N.C. Rate Bureau requesting an increase to homeowners’ insurance rates, and they’ve got good reason to be concerned. An average increase of 42% statewide, and as high as 99% for homes on the coast is a lot.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will present a pair of Commissioner’s Awards during a visit to Union County on Friday, Jan.19.Commissioner Causey will present the awards to Union County Fire Marshal Kevin Rigoli and also to his fire dog, Camden, during a retirement ceremony to be held at the Emergency Services Center in Monroe, NC.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Anthony Randy Osborne, 29, of 302 Peterson Lane, Windsor. Osborne was charged with common law forgery, common law uttering and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, all felonies.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has announced that the North Carolina Department of Insurance saved or recovered nearly $130 million for North Carolinians in 2023. This amount represents the best single year on record in recoveries since Commissioner Causey took office in January 2017. The recovered funds include those from insurance fraud restitution and external reviews. The department also announced a record 505 arrests via its Criminal Investigations Division.
