North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Briana Samone Caldwell, 28, of 4216 Parker St., Greensboro. Caldwell is charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Caldwell of obtaining $26,618.90 from State Farm Property and Casualty Insurance by submitting false documents on a fictitious fire claim at her apartment.

The offense occurred on Dec. 22, 2020.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today that the N.C. Department of Insurance has ended its legal dispute with the North Carolina Rate Bureau on its proposed 24.5% homeowners insurance rate increase, averting a potentially costly administrative battle with insurance companies.  Commissioner Causey and the Rate Bureau settled on an average 7.9% statewide increase, which is a 16.6% lower rate than the Rate Bureau requested.  This means the hearing scheduled for Jan. 3, 2022, is canceled.

With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up and Christmas right around the corner, Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey encourages families to practice safe cooking now and throughout the year.

“It’s easy to lose focus when entertaining family and friends,” said Commissioner Causey. “But while you’re planning your holiday menu, make sure to plan for fire safety especially when cooking, baking or even lighting holiday candles.”

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Latonya Levette Tucker, 46, of 2924 W. Hills Drive, Greenville. Tucker was charged with two counts of insurance fraud and two counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, all felonies.

Special agents from the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division investigated two fraud incidents, one occurring in 2012 and the other in 2019.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Ronnie Bernard Truesdale, 41, of 1920 Boaz Road, Raleigh. Truesdale was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, a felony.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Levi Baril, 36, of 320 Befordshire Place, Fayetteville. Baril was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Baril of making an automobile insurance claim with Government Employees Insurance Co., telling the company that his 2006 Ford F250 truck was stolen in Fayetteville on July 26, 2020.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Malik Gerald Devone, 26, of 2503 Crescent Forest Drive, Raleigh. Devone was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Devone of providing Discovery Insurance Co. with a false date for an automobile crash in an effort to obtain an insurance claim payment.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Lakeisha Hope, 37, of 4750 Lake Valley Drive, Fayetteville. Hope was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Hope of providing false information to Sentry Insurance regarding an automobile insurance claim.

Edwards was charged with two counts of insurance fraud, one count of obtaining property by false pretense and one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, all felonies.
