North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has set Sept. 22 as the hearing date for the North Carolina Rate Bureau’s proposed 23% automobile insurance rate increase.“We are not in agreement with the Rate Bureau’s proposed increases filed on Feb. 3. The next step, according to statute, is to set a hearing date,” said Commissioner Causey. “The purpose of the hearing is to reach a resolution that will make the most financial sense for both North Carolina residents and insurance companies.”
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Shantale Pierre Chery, 54, of 1711 Chasewood Dr., Charlotte. Chery was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Viola Brewer Harrell, 51, of 114 Roger Lane, Ahoskie, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.According to the criminal summons, Harrell provided false and misleading statements to Integon Indemnity Corp. in an attempt to obtain $1,347.63 in an automobile insurance claim. Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Harrell of misrepresenting when the damage to her vehicle occurred.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Eric James Moore, 32, of 1033 Moravian St., Winston-Salem. Moore was charged with insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and forgery, all felonies.Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Moore of trying to collect on an automobile insurance claim with Geico Insurance Co. by forging a bill from Triad Radiology and claiming he had paid those bills.The offense occurred June 28, 2024.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Kenyatta Danyelle Maldonado, 43, of 805B Pembroke Dr., Plymouth. Maldonado was charged with insurance fraud, a felonySpecial agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division state that Maldonado filed an auto damage claim with Peak Property and Casualty stating her vehicle was hit during gunfire on Dec. 28, 2024. Maldonado had filed the same claim with another insurance carrier months earlier. 
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Katisha Rashaud Roberts, 34, of 1264 Sandy Ridge Church Rd., Morven. Roberts was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Timothy Alexander Riley, 19, of 1140 Delco Prosper Road, Delco. Riley was charged with one count of insurance fraud, a felony.Special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division charged Riley with insurance fraud after he told Walmart’s Claims Services Department that a pallet of merchandise fell on him. He later filed a claim for worker’s compensation. Video evidence later revealed that he had moved out of the way of a falling pallet without being struck.

Frierson was charged with insurance fraud, obtaining property by false pretense, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and two counts of common law forgery, all felonies.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Dewanda A. Battle, 49, of 3718 Lear Court, Wilson. Battle was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Battle of attempting to obtain $4,001.68 from Progressive Premier Insurance Co. of Illinois by providing a false date that her car was damaged during the automobile insurance claims process.The offenses occurred on Sept. 30, 2024.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Nathan Hadley Falsion, 22, of 205 Eden Park Dr., Wallburg. Falsion was charged with two counts of insurance fraud and one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense. All three charges are felonies.
