North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Robin Hart, 47, of 1713 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount. Hart was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

According to the arrest warrant, Hart filed a claim with Nationwide Insurance Co. of America, saying that damage to her 2014 Nissan Altima was the result of a storm blowing a trash can into her car when the damage to her vehicle was present when she bought it.

The offenses occurred between Feb. 22 and Sept. 10.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Jeremy Ryan Boroski, 23, of 40966 Mountain View Church Road, Albemarle, was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies, along with misdemeanor making a false report to police.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Felicia Bryant, 46, of 104 Redman Court, LaGrange. Bryant was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

According to the arrest warrant, Bryant filed a new vehicle damage claim with Geico when the damage had previously been reported to Allstate.

The offense occurred on April 26.

Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division arrested Bryant on Sept. 11. She was released on $3,000 unsecured bond.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Sequan Tripp, 25, of 411 Dunn St., New Bern. Tripp was charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

According to the arrest warrant, Tripp submitted a fictitious police report in support of a renter’s insurance claim with State Farm Fire & Casualty Co. for payment of personal property reported stolen from his home.

The offenses occurred between May 15-20.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will stop by insurance agencies and fire stations during a trip to Rutherford, Polk and Cleveland counties on Monday, Oct. 5.

Commissioner Causey, who is also the State Fire Marshal, will listen to firefighters’ concerns and discuss the need to improve volunteer recruitment and retention during stops at fire stations.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, along with the Federal Trade Commission and more than 50 federal and state law enforcement partners, announced today a nationwide law enforcement initiative to protect consumers from abusive and threatening debt collection practices.

The initiative, called Operation Corrupt Collector, is a federal-state law enforcement sweep that includes enforcement actions brought by the FTC, three federal partners and partners from 16 different state agencies against debt collectors engaged in these illegal practices. 

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey’s plans to visit Surry and Yadkin counties on Monday, Sept. 28, and deliver ceremonial grant checks to fire stations in both counties.

Thirteen volunteer fire departments in Surry County are receiving matching grants totaling more than $175,000. Five volunteer fire departments in Yadkin County are receiving matching grants totaling more than $136,000.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey warns residents to be on alert for insurance scams.  In the last few days, NCDOI has had reports of people going door-to-door claiming to be from the N.C. Department of Insurance.  During the visit, the impersonator tells the resident, because they were between the ages 50 to 85, they had been selected to receive free health insurance that covers medical, vision, dental and life.
