Charlotte man charged with insurance fraud regarding laptop damage

RALEIGH
Dec 9, 2022

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that D’mitri Ahkeem Bouttry, 32, of 7803 Davinci Lane, Charlotte, was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Bouttry of submitting fraudulent photos to USAA in support of a claim that his Apple MacBook laptop was damaged.

According to a criminal summons, the photos had been downloaded from various internet websites before being uploaded to the insurance company.

The offense occurred on Sept. 21, 2021.

Mecklenburg County deputies served Bouttry with a criminal summons on Dec. 6. He is due in Mecklenburg County District Court on Dec. 19.

“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar go to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840.
