North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrests of Steven Herbert Andrews, William Grant Andrews Sr. and William Grant Andrews Jr.
William Andrews Sr., 65, 3242 Altamahaw Racetrack Road, Elon, is charged with three counts of insurance fraud, two counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense and one count of common law uttering.
Steven Andrews, 36, also of 3242 Altamahaw Racetrack Road, Elon, is charged with 16 counts of insurance fraud, 10 counts of forgery, six counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, two counts of obtaining property by false pretense and two counts of perjury.
William Andrews Jr., 39, of 3478 Danieley Water Wheel Road, Burlington, is charged with two counts of insurance fraud, one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, one count of obtaining property by false pretense, one count of perjury and one count of forgery.
All 48 charges are felonies. Family members operate multiple businesses, including home repair and real estate management.
According to special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, the three men submitted exaggerated claims to the N.C. Joint Underwriting Association, also known as the FAIR Plan, along with claims for some damages that did not occur.
All incidents occurred between November 2021 and September 2023, according to the warrants.
Steven Andrews, William Andrews Sr. and William Andrews Jr. turned themselves in on June 17 and were released on written promises to appear in court. They appeared in Alamance County District Court on June 18.
“Thank you to our agents for bringing this complex case to light,” Commissioner Causey said. “Insurance fraud is a serious crime. Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
